A thread that has been super helpful was this one:ĮNGINE AND TRANS REMOVAL FROM MY XC90!!!! (Watch this space!!!)!!!)Īnways, here are some photos I took for reference but they might not be super interesting. Something I have noticed is there are not many threads on engine/trans removal so I thought I would post as much as I can to help others out. I did take some photos of things I wanted to remember. It comes apart fairly intuitively.ĭidn't take as many photos as I would have liked since my hands were so greasy and I didn't want to mess up my phone. What I'm finding on working on this is it's not super HARD, it just takes a long time. That has been the hardest part of this so far. Those were a major PITA, but I finally got them. Seems like it should snap off somehow.Īlso back in that area were the connectors for the o2 sensors.way on the rear of the tranny. Does anyone know how to take this off? The nut wasn't seeming to budge. Also I am not quite sure how to remove the shift linkage on the transmission. I have not removed axles, exhaust, or the heater hoses yet. There are a ton of things going on under there. I think I got all the wiring harness off finally. Doesn't look a whole lot further along, but it is. I did decide to out out of the top as I don't have a lift. ![]() I love how many things come out without the requirement of special tools- or ANY tools for that matter on a lot of items. It seems to be designed with dissassembly/assembly in mind just by the way things come apart. And what I mean by that is so far this car seems to be well thought out. But something I have noticed so far is that while it may take a while and there are a ton of steps, none so far have been particularly frustrating. I can tell this is going to take a long time. I have completed 100% of the rebuilds I have started so I don't think this one will be any different. Just around this time in the project I always start thinking I have bit off more than I can chew- but that happens every time I get to this stage. So I started with the engine/trans removal. Honestly I kinda wanted to do it myself anyways. Saves me the money, plus I can make sure it's done right. In his defense he did just have neck surgery, and it looked like a bit more than he was expecting.
